A
King mine resident Prazen Tonhore who resides at no63 was summoned to court by
his wife Gertrude Tonhore demanding maintenance which Prazen told the court
that God was supposed to take care of her since she is a Christian.
Mrs.
Tonhore took her spouse to Mashava civil court because he was not taking care
of her and the children. She said Mr Tonhore was now residing with her
girlfriend whom she identified as Lydia Mapfumo and he was nowhere to be seen at his home.
“I
have a problem with my husband, he just goes and does not tell us where he will
be going. So far we have 38 years in marriage but his sudden u-turn from me is
troubling me my Worship”, Mrs. Tonhore told the court.
The
matter was ruled under the magistrate Francis Mapfumo who then asked Mr.
Tonhore if the accuses by his wife were true. Mr Tonhore agreed everything and
told the court that he is living with Lydia because Mrs. Tonhore had promised
to poison him if he ever took any food that she prepares for him.
The
accused also pointed out that his children were being influenced by their
mother not to respect him as their father.
“I
am living with Lydia just because I want to relieve stress and I don’t take any
food that she prepares because she threatened to poison me if I ever eat any
food that she prepares. My children are nolonger respecting me because of her
influence. One of my daughters told me that she will slice me into pieces if I
ever try to control her”, Mr. Tonhore said.
Mrs.
Tonhore also accused his husband of stealing their food and gives it to Lydia
which she (Mrs. Tonhore) struggle to buy using money from her flea market. She
said her husband contribute nothing to their household needs. Mr. Tonhore was
also accused of chasing her two daughters away from his home saying they are
not his and he threatens to reverse their birth certificates.
The
accused refused what his wife was accusing him. He said he took nothing from
his home since the day he began to live with Lydia. On the matter of chasing
away daughters, Mr. Tonhore said his two eldest daughters are bringing children
with no fathers home when he is expecting to get son-inlaws.
“I
did not chase away my children, one of them who threatened to slice me with a handkerchief knife is home right now, I only tell them that they are not my children since they did not respect me, my Worship", Mr. Tonhore said.
Despite
this poor relationship, Mr Mapfumo told Mr Tonhore that he was supposed to take
care of her wife till death because they have a marriage certificate which
suggests that she is his wife. Mr Tonhore who is now a pensioner of King mine
was ordered to pay $59 as maintenance to his wife under the Spousal Maintenance Act with due effect from April 2015.
umm its very pathetic if man refused to take care of their spouse after a so long period in marriage
